5G PA Analysis
This example illustrates a comparison of 5G candidate waveforms with nonlinear power amplifier in VSS. Each modulation source blocks are followed by a linear pre-amplifier, nonlinear power amplifier, and corresponding demodulator. Tuner can be used to adjust the gain of the pre-amplifiers to look at the impact of nonlinear PA at different input levels. Transmit spectrum before and after the nonlinearPA shows the spectral characteritics of these waveforms. Demodulated constellation also shows the effect of amplifier nonlinearity. CCDF of each generated waveforms are shown to compare their peak to average ratio characteristics.
Four types of waveforms are implemented with parameters relevant to 5G waveform evaluation. All of the source subcircuits expose adjustable parameters such as carrier frequency, subcarrier spacing, number of subcarriers, and subcarrier mapping that could accomodate parameters that will be eventually specified in 3GPP NR specification.
- OFDM_SRC implements basic OFDM, the same format used in LTE DL.
- Filtered OFDM (FOFDM_SRC) uses time domain filtering on OFDM signal to obtain better spectral roll off.
- GFDM_SRC implements Generalized Frequency Division Multiplxing waveform.
- FBMC_SRC implements Filter Bank MultiCarrier waveform.
