Design Notes

WCDMA/HSDPA RX Blocking Characteristics Test:

This project implements the RX Blocking Characteristics Test according to ETSI TS 125 141 V6.11.0 (2005-09) Technical Specification, defined in Section 7.5. 

For this test, the TX transmits an uplink DPCH signal with 12.2 kbps data rate. Blocking signal is generated as either a WCDMA source or a CW source and is combined with the signal of interest. Center frequency of the interfering signal depends on the operating frequency band and is defined in Tables 7.4x. For each base-station (BS) class, a bit-error-rate (BER) of 0.001 should be achieved for the signal and interference levels defined in Tables 7.4x. As an example, signal and interference parameters for Operating Band I are shown below:

The WCDMA interferer will have a 10 MHz minimum offset, while the CW interferer will have a 20 MHz minimum offset.

The frequency offset of the interferers may be modified through variables WCDMA_FcOffset_MHz and CW_FcOffset_MHz.

Two system diagrams are provided for the TX and RX DUT implementations.  User can implement their own designs inside these system diagrams.


When the measured BER is 0, no points will be displayed on the BER graph. The BER_EXT block in the RX Sensitivity Performance system diagram creates a pop-up window when simulation starts, where tral statistics are displayed. Sometime this window starts either minimized or very smal - in this case, increase the size of this window to monitor the trial statistics.

Test Configuration:

The test may be cofigured by setting appropriate parameters in the Global Definitions window.  These parameters, which are boxed for easy access, are:

SigLevel_relStart: Start Signal Level relative to nominal signal level

SigLevel_span:                    Span of Signal Levels

SigLevel_step:                     Step of Signal Levels

MinNumErrsCollect:            Minimum Number of Errors to collect for each signal level

MaxNumBlockRun:             Maximum number of blocks to run for each signal level

BS_Type:                              BS type (0 = Wide area, 1 = Medium range, 2 = Local area)

WCDMA_FcOffset_MHz:   Carrier frequency offset of WCDMA interfering source

CW_FcOffset_MHz:            Carrier frequency offset of CW interfering source

CW_PwrLvl_dBm:               Power level of CW interfering source
