Tee Resonator with Dielectric Loading
This example demonstrates a classical tee resonator and a variant in which the resonance frequency is tuned down by dielectric loading.
Overview
The resonator length is 8mm, and it has a resonance frequency of 5.5GHz (ER=3.38, H=0.8128mm, T=35um, W=1.85mm --> ER_eff~2.7 so lambda/4=8mm corresponds to f~5.7GHz)
The dielectric loading is accomplished by defining a new dielectric "Ceramic" with ER=10, and assigning it to material "Dice" with 2mm thickness. The dielectric dice is drawn by selecting "Dice" as the material. The dice is placed on top of the resonator.
Frequencies range is 0.1-10GHz in steps of 0.1GHz. Notice that "Model as zero thickness" is unchecked under Mesh options tab.
You may watch the mesh density getting higher and higher during the AMR or Automatic Mesh Refinement process. Just toggle the 3D mesh annotation on before or anytime during the solution. In the 3D mesh annotation, the Dielectric Opacity is set to 0.8 for better viewing. In Layout pane , air layer visibility is turned off in Visibility By Material/Boundary.
The S21 result indeed shows that the resonance frequency shifts down, as the wavelength gets shorter when there is a dielectric loading involved.
