DYNAMIC VOLTAGE CONTROLLED CURRENT SOURCE
This project demonstrates setting up and using Dynamic Voltage Controlled Current Source (DYN_VCCS) in the AWR Design Environment to re-create the CURTICE FET model.
Overview
The Dynamic Voltage Controlled Current/Charge Sources (DYN_VCCS / DYN_VCQS) allows users to have a current or charge source that is dependant on an arbitrary number of voltage branches and parameters that are related through an expression (EXPR).
The model is dynamic in that the symbol will change real time based on the number of dependant voltages mentioned in the EXPR parameter. Similarly, the parameters will change real time based on the number of variables mentioned in the EXPR parameter.
For example, if "EXPR=V0+A*V1" then the DYN_VCCS will look like this:
Also, if "EXPR=V0+A*V1+B*V2+C*V3" then the DYN_VCCS will look like this:
In this example the CURTICE FET model is re-created with the DYN_VCCS element.
These elements are found under Sources > Dependant > Nonlinear.
Intrinsic Dynamic Model Schematic
This schematic shows the CURTICE equations being used in the EXPR field of the DYN_VCCS. Note that the symbol and parameters of the DYN_VCCS reflect the contents of this field.
Extrinsic Dynamic Model Schematic
This schematic shows the same DYN_VCCS as the "Intrinsic Dynamic Model" Schematic, but has the model wrapped with package parasitics
The parameters A0, A1, A2, and A3 of the extrinsic model are setup for tuning. Open up the tuner (Simulate > Tune) and change these values to see the effect that each has on the device IV and dynamic load line graphs.
IV Intrinsic Dynamic Model Schematic
This schematic shows the IV curve test bench for the "Intrinsic Dynamic Model." The graph shown on this schematic compares the DCIV curves for the "Intrinsic Dynamic Model" and "Extrinsic Dynamic Model" schematics.
IV Extrinsic Dynamic Model Schematic
This schematic shows the IV curve test bench for the "Extrinsic Dynamic Model." The graph shown on this schematic compares the DCIV curves for the "Intrinsic Dynamic Model" and "Extrinsic Dynamic Model" schematics.
DLL Extrinsic Dynamic Model Schematic
This schematic shows the dynamic load line test bench for the "Extrinsic Dynamic Model." The graph shown on this schematic shows the dynamic load lines and DCIV curves for the "Extrinsic Dynamic Model" schematic.
The parameters for the collector voltage, base voltage, and RF Input power are setup for tuning. Open the tuner (Simulate > Tune) and change these values to see the effect each has on the device IV and dynamic load line.
