Drawing and Modeling Layers: The Key to Mastering Layout
This talk discusses the concepts of drawing and modeling layers - a understanding of which is critical to success in the AWR layout environment. Drawing layers are used in the schematic layout view; they are the layers that the designer "sees". Modeling layers are used as a way of adding more flexibility to the layout environment. Model layers come into play whenever schematic elements with PCells are used, or artwork cells are generated. Specific topics include:
-
What are modeling and drawing layers and why do we need them?
-
Drawing layers - and the schematic layout view.
-
The model layer mapping file.
-
Control of the layers through the LPF file.
-
Good design practice for successful setup of the layout environment.
